SEXUAL AND GENDER BASED VIOLENCE/ FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION
Sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) refers to any act that is perpetrated against a person’s will and is based on gender norms and unequal power relationships. SGBV are pervasive problems within Kenya, with 1 in 3 Kenyan females reported having experienced an act of sexual violence before the age of 18. Between 39-47% of women experience GBV in their lifetime, exhibiting the need for multi-pronged efforts to combat this insidious public health problem.

Currently, KIKOP has incorporated educational lessons on GBV among our Care Group model and within the Adolescent Program curriculum. We are currently working to expand our efforts against SGBV/FGM, starting with formative research on SGBV indicators among our beneficiary households.
